AMSE OFFERS HOMESCHOOL PROGRAMS

Families can register their students for the Homeschool Friday Programs for Grades K-2 and for Grades 3-6 being offered September through December at the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge.

Programs for homeschool students in Grades K-2 are one hour classes meeting from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at a cost of $7 for non-members and $5 for AMSE members. Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 30 to participate in these classes. Students in Grades 3-6 have two hour classes from 12:30 am – 2:30 pm at a cost of $12 for non-members and $9 for AMSE members. Program fees include the classroom program and admission for one student and one adult into AMSE, when the program is held at the museum.

AMSE educators will lead homeschool students through interactive programs on exciting topics on the following Fridays. Sept. 14 “Plants, Pollinators, & Seeds, and Sept. 21 “Insects”, with both of these classes being held at Freels Bend Cabin. Additional Homeschool Friday classes, all held at AMSE, include October 12 “Sensible Science, October 26 ” Skins & Skulls, November 9 “Chemistry”, November 30 “Polymers”, December 7 “Soap Science” and December 14 “Electricity.”

Advance reservations of one week, prior to the class, are required for the AMSE Homeschool Friday Progam. Class registration is confirmed with receipt of payment. No refunds will be given participants not attending their schedule class date, unless reservations are cancelled at least one week in advance.

The American Museum of Science and Energy, located at 300 South Tulane Avenue in Oak Ridge, is open Monday – Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm and Sunday from 1 – 5 pm. Admission is Adults $5, Seniors (65+) $4, Students (6-17) $3 and Children (5 and under) no charge. AMSE members are free. Group rates are available for 20 or more with advance reservations. AMSE memberships, good for 12 months from purchase date, are Family $40, Grandparents $35, Individuals $25 and Family & Friends $75. AMSE members receive unlimited AMSE visits and free admission to 250 museums that participate in the ASTC Passport Program. AMSE members get discounts on Discovery Shop merchandise, discounts on classes, programs, camps and birthday parties.
