Dec. 1 “Penny4Arts Performances for Knox Co. Students and their Families” on the first Sunday of each month. AMSE admission specifically for Knox County students (ages 5 – 15) is one penny, when accompanied by a paying adult (18 years and older) admission. Limit is 3 children per paying adult. Must have proof of Knox County residency (driver’s license) required for each adult accompanying children ages 5 – 15. On Sunday AMSE is open from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Some restrictions apply. Dec. 3 – Jan. 5 “AMSE Celebrates the Holiday Season” with festive lobby decorations provided by the Oak Ridge Garden Club, a 31 year tradition, to provide a cheerful welcome to AMSE visitors during December. The Oak Ridge Garden Club continues to add original designs of ornaments and arrangements made from natural materials available from their gardens for the museum decor. AMSE Lobby

Dec. 1 – Jan. 26 “Ed Westcott Images” exhibit, sponsored by the Y-12 National Security Complex, provides a look at the 1940’s history of Oak Ridge as captured through the photographic lens of Ed Westcott, the official U.S. Army Manhattan Project photographer. AMSE Lobby.
Dec. 1 – Jan. 15 “The Science Maze” where visitors get lost in science facts as they discover interesting science tidbits from astronomy to zoology. AMSE Second Level
Dec. 6 “AMSE Discovery Shop 20% Discount Day.” For one day only, shoppers can receive 20% discount on regular priced merchandise. The Discovery Shop has unique science, energy and history books, kits, puzzles, games, apparel, ornaments and stocking stuffers. The Discovery Shop is open Monday – Saturday from 10:30 and – 4:45 pm and on Sunday from 1:00 – 4:45 pm.
Dec. 6 “AMSE Homeschool Friday Program” Flight and Hovercraft for K-2 and grades 3 – 6. Students make and experiment with a different kind of simple paper airplane, make their own simple model hovercraft and witness an air-jet rocket demonstration. Students also learn why real airplanes fly and observe other tricks with moving air. Cost for the one-hour program at 10:30 am for K-2 is $7.00 non-member and $5.00 AMSE member, while cost for two-hour program at 12:30 pm for grades 3 – 6 is $12.00 for non-members and $9.00 for members.
