Free Movie and AMSE Admission on Nov 30

Grab your coat and get over to the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge for free AMSE admission at 5:30 pm on Friday, November 30 and enjoy the history, science and energy exhibits on both floors and visit AMSE’s Discovery Shop for holiday gifts, before the free sci-fi movie at 7:00 pm

AMSE visitors attending the free “Movies at the Museum” on November 30 will see “King Kong vs. Godzilla” (NR – 1962) a pharmaceutical company captures King Kong and brings him to Japan, where he escapes from captivity and battles a recently released Godzilla at 7:00 pm on the big screen in the AMSE auditorium.  “Movies at the Museum” are presented by the AMSE Foundation and sponsored by Costco Wholesale, Enrichment Federal Credit Union, Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau, Premier Locations, an Authorized Agent of U. S. Cellular, and Z11 Communications.

Museum lobby exhibits include “DOOMTOWN” atomic art by Doug Waterfield, “General Leslie Groves and the Manhattan Project,” and “Oak Ridge Story: World War II Secret City” exhibition.  On the museum’s second level do basic hands-on science experiments, use the computer simulators and “Be a Dinosaur,” get a historical overview of  “Y-12 and National Defense,” test your energy IQ on fossil fuels and alternative energy sources; discover the methods of environmental clean-up of the WWII legacy waste at the former Manhattan Project sites on the DOE reservation, and encounter the “World of the Atom” models, artifacts and activities.

When visiting the museum’s Discovery Shop, look for stocking stuffers, science and robot kits, science and Manhattan Project books, and find games, apparel and posters for the Einstein on your list.  Purchase the AMSE membership for family and friends for 365 days of unlimited AMSE visits and free admission to 250 science centers that participate in the Association of Science Technology Centers (ASTC) Passport Program.

The American Museum of Science and Energy, located at 300 South Tulane Avenue in Oak Ridge, is open Monday – Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm and Sunday 1 – 5 pm.  AMSE admission is Adults $5, Seniors (65+) $4, Students (6 – 17) $3 and Children (5 and under) no charge.  AMSE members are free.  Group rates are available for 20 or more with advance reservations.  AMSE memberships, good for 12 months from purchase date, are Family $45, Grandparents $40, Individuals $25 and Family & Friends $75.  AMSE members receive Discovery Shop discounts on merchandise, discounts on classes, workshops, camps and birthday parties.  For more information on AMSE memberships, exhibits, programs and events, go to   To schedule a group visit, call AMSE at (865) 576-3200.
