Ed Westcott Images

November 9 – January 26, 2014

Ed Westcott Images is dedicated to the Oak Ridge Manhattan Project’s official photographer, James Edward Westcott.

Ed’s eye for exceptional photography produced an enduring body of work and one of the world’s best photographic historical records.  Without his photographs, East Tennessee’s contribution to what many consider the most significant scientific and industrial accomplishment  would not be so well documented.

Ed’s photographic career spans a time of tremendous change in the world.  He was fortunate enough to be in the right place when the nuclear era began and captured the images of that momentous transition.  His career with the Atomic Energy Commission and successor agencies allowed him to travel widely and photograph much of the Department of Energy’s technological advances.

Since retiring in his beloved Oak Ridge, Ed and his images have greatly contributed to the understanding of the world-changing events in the “Secret City.”
